I saw a special on Nat Geo about an hypothesis gaining ground that the dinosaurs may have been extinct by a super volcanic event. Studies suggest one such event less devastating may have occurred as recently as 75,000 years ago, described in detail in the following article;

What makes this phenomenon particularly dangerous is that it cannot be averted such as in the case of an asteroid. One more thing to worry about. :cool:
