I've posted a pic of an alternate version of the Dirty Dozen probe carrier. After a conversation with a trajectory specialist - a real, live rocket scientist, I'm sort of convinced that launching the carrier into a heliocentric orbit is probably better than leaving it in LEO.
The system is much simpler - only four booster engines, and one small thruster on each satellite.
