And I cannot believe you linked us to it... :p
This is the reason why I want to "get away from it all". The first colonists that came to America felt the same way. Getting away from the nobles, from the religious oppression, etc.
A top to bottom apathy that has spread through the human race. Teachers do not teach. Parents do not parent. Leaders do not lead. Judges do not judge. Everyone is taking the path of least resistance.
There are exceptions to this. But they are exceptions and quite in the minority.
Edit: It seems like I am always looking to place blame. However, to fix a problem you have to find the root of the problem.

Nope, nope, and nope.
Honestly, sometimes I think humanity needs a serious spanking and a complete reappraisal, and uplift in consciousness before we should even be PERMITTED into space.
And when I mean spanking, I mean like that kid needs a SPANKING! Like this vid. :D

Careful guys, I've been studying up on how these guys get that many views. Basically Fred is inkahoots with a group of very influential youtubers. There's groups of them out there, and some are so tight with google that they have formed production companies around their activities and regularly purchase front page ads. Of course, they get returns on this...
I've found about a dozen or so strategies for upping you're youtube views
1.) Video SEO (complicated b/c the keywords don't get picked up by the spiders)
2.) Authority rankings, as many good sources linking to the video as possible
3.) social bookmarking spreads (reddit, digg, delicious, etc.)
4.) Blogoshpere help
5.) Automated View spams, yes there are a great many services that bump a view to a webpage/video... some even have return rates as low as 30%, but most are really cheap. I found one in china that was $5 for 10k ... meaning probably 3k.
6.) MOST IMPORTANT: consistent channel branding and content, they only watch them consistently if you produce content consistently.
7.) content must be funny and entertaining (otherwise ppl leave)
8.) no negatives... it's kinda a rule... not really sure about the issue
9.) there's more but it's the scraps

That's fascinating. I thought they were just random clips by narcissistic types for the most part. I'd like to learn more about this. I do subscribe to a few "channels" myself but mostly not entertainers like Fred.

That is a Great and Hilarious clip! I catch my self being one those people that don't quite appreciate the technology around them sometimes though. We need to step back and imagine ourselves a hundred years in the past and then wake up and look around.
But it can be a little hard when you're imagination is years ahead of the current state of the art.
